Rep. Matt Manweller appointed to Interim Task Force on Washington Waters
Rep. Matt Manweller has been appointed to the Interim Task Force on Washington Waters by House Republican Leader Dan Kristiansen.
The committee was established in the capital budget legislation passed by the Legislature in the third special session in June. The task force will be looking at three areas: storm water, flood control and water supply infrastructure in the state.
"Drought conditions across the state are having a significant impact on farmers, orchardists and fish preservation. Many in our agricultural industry were literally counting drops of water this year," said Manweller, R-Ellensburg. "With water being the lifeblood of our economy, it is essential we come up with a plan to keep the water flowing while also focusing on storage for the future.
"This wildfire season has also served as a reminder of the importance and reliance of our state's water supply during extreme fire conditions as we try to protect our communities and natural resources."
The task force will consider funding levels at the state and local levels for storm water, flood control and water supply infrastructure as well as criteria for managing and prioritizing funding.
They must report its findings and recommendations to the appropriate legislative committee by Nov. 15, 2015.
